My mom is a lot like me (or is it the other way around?) in the sense that she is not a girly girl. She never has been and yeah, she never will be. She doesn’t wear makeup much and although she has TONS of clothes, they are mostly just jeans and shirts. However, where I am a bag addict, she is a shoe addict lol!!
When it comes to jewelry, she has pretty simple taste. She does NOT go for statement pieces and hates anything large. In fact, she won’t wear anything but studs in her ears. But she does LOVE pendants!! Simple chains with a pendant.
A few months ago, her and a few coworkers pitched together to buy another coworker an Origami Owl locket and that’s when she fell in love. Since then, she has spoken frequently about wanting one for herself! I am happy to say that I am able to give her one now!
I met Norma Morris via Facebook and she actually designed her locket just by asking me a few questions about my mom and I think she did a FABULOUS job! First of course, we had to decide on color. I chose the Rose Gold because one of my mom’s favorite rings is a Black Hills Gold leaf ring and she wears it religiously. I think that the Rose Gold matches very nicely with Black Hills Gold and I wanted to give her something she would love.
Next of course she asked me about my mom’s hobbies and loves. Now this was hard because my mom works a lot and doesn’t have many hobbies other than reading books. I’ll be honest, I didn’t really like the charm for books because I don’t think the colors really went with the Rose Gold and it wasn’t something that I think she would really like. So instead I told her about the fact that my mom is VERY proud to be a grandma!
Then I just had to sit and wait for the locket to show up to see what Norma created for my mom. I am very pleased with the end result! She chose a girl charm with an April birthstone for my daughter, a boy charm with a September birthstone for my son, a Family plate, a Grandma charm and the small Rose Gold heart that I specifically asked for because I think it is beautiful and sparkly!!
I am very happy to have met Norma, as not only does she have a pleasant personality, she is really good at what she does. Now of course, I want to make myself a locket. I don’t know if all the charms I want would fit in 1 large locket, but I would love to try! I had a hard time deciding what to add to my wishlist, simply because I kept coming across charms that made me go “ooh Lexi would love that one, or ooh, I could get that for my best friend!!” I had to FORCE myself to only choose for ME which is a VERY hard thing for me to do! Needless to say, these lockets make AMAZING gifts for so many different people in your life!!
Now the image should be self explanatory as to why I chose each item, but I will explain! First off, the locket….I am not a huge fan of gold for myself, I prefer silver. Also it is large so hopefully it would fit all my charms and then of course…..SPARKLY!! As far as the chain, I chose that one simply because I like funky chains. Sure, simple chains are great, but they aren’t necessarily ME.
The clear and blue stones obvious signify my children, Mini Me is my daughter and Monchichi Monkey is my son! No seriously, when his hair is longer, he really does look like a Monchichi Monkey!! Then of course there is the Mom charm because well….I am a Mom and because it is the one thing I am most proud to be!
The next 2 charms, the heart and the key are representations of my husband and myself! He truly does hold the key to my heart! Yes, TOTALLY sappy, but it is true! He is also my high school sweetheart! The eight ball is very significant to us as well. It wasn’t really a first date as I indicated above, it was actually more of a group of friends going bowling together. Our friends CONSPIRED to try and get us together by all pairing off to different tables and leaving us alone. So we played for awhile and I got impatient waiting for him to make a move. So just as he was about to sink the eight ball, I asked him out. Of course he missed and then admitted that he had told himself that if he made the shot, he would ask ME out. He was mad at me for ruining it for him and of course making him LOSE, but he kissed me anyways and the rest is history!
The laptop is simply a representation of my blogging! Uncreative Mommy is such a large part of my life and is something I LOVE to do, so of course that is something I want to add to my locket! Gotta have the 3 things I am most proud of and love the most…..My Kids, My Marriage and Hubby and of course…Uncreative Mommy! The last pic, the pearl dangle is simply because it is pretty! Don’t you think?
